AW2011 Empire States
For Autumn/Winter 2011, breakthrough British designer Joanne Stoker has created a masterful collection, based on a deeply rooted admiration of architectural composition.
Touted by Vogue.com as one of London Fashion Week's 'Ones to Watch', Joanne Stoker's latest aesthetic pushes the boundaries of avant-garde sculpture in footwear, with a distinct focus on the heels. Looking to the angular elegance of classic Art Deco, the unique construction and handcrafted Plexiglas heels are a strong reference to the iconic New York skyline.
Equally fascinated with ornate interiors, the bright young designer has taken inspiration from the marble and precious stones used in graphic floor patterns, furnishings and stained glass windows. Embellished and inlayed, the quirky silhouettes are detailed with contrasting precious stones of malachite and amber.
The palette is rich and moody, in an eclectic mix of suede, metal and premium Italian leathers. As a final twist, Joanne Stoker adds flamboyant plumes of laser-cut feathers to several styles, as inspired by Erte's illustrations of exotic birds and plumage.
